Butter Yellow Baby - A Collaborative Styled Shoot
Photography done by Sasha with a Camera
We only do one styled shoot per year, so we like to make sure those shoots are a major *wow* moment. When Sasha of Sasha with a Camera reached out to us about collabing on a shoot, we knew our *wow* moment was upon us.
We wanted this shoot to have midcentury modern influence and touches while being completely monochrome. We went back and forth between a few colors, but ultimately landed on yellow. We loved the happy, vibrant, retro, and unique feel that the color invokes.
A major piece of inspiration was a particular built-in set of shelves with midcentury modern shapes that Sasha had come across online. We saw the shelves and immediately knew they could be translated into a wedding backdrop. We enlisted our friends at James and Jo, who not only didn’t run when we sent over this crazy vision, but executed it flawlessly. The bespoke shelf wall was one of the stars of the show, serving as an awesome backdrop for Robin, our model extraordinaire, to showcase her stunning look. Said look was composed of a two-piece dress from Kinfolk Bridal, a Madison Chamberlain veil (duh), hair by Bardot Bridal, makeup by Gloss Philly, and jewelry from Emily Chelsea Jewelry.
Aside from the shelf backdrop, we wanted the other *wow* moment to be the table. We combined multiple smaller tables to make one giant one and let East Tulip work her magic with the florals. The vision was to have the floral arrangements create a lush border around the supersized table, and Maddy and her team delivered. Citrine Tablescapes provided the placesettings (and studio!) and Shindig Bespoke created custom name tags in various midcentury-modern-inspired shapes. Of course, we had to go with yellow velvet linens from Nuage Designs. One of our favorite details? The super stylish, skinny candles placed thoughtfully throughout the floral arrangements - with many of them stuck in styled fruit.
Of course, we cannot discuss this shoot without mentioning the piece de resistance - the butter sculptures. Yes, you read that right. Butter. Sculptures. Mallory at Party Girl Worldwide creates one-of-a-kind candlesticks and candelabras, adorned with intricately sculpted butter to create pieces that are out of this world. Party Girl Worldwide also made the funky cake (it had potato chip flakes inside!) and one of our favorite parts of the day was when Robin got on top of the huge table to cut it. Butter obviously isn’t complete without bread, so Mallory provided sourdough and Robin dug right in, buttering her bread from the candle sculptures.
We love styled shoots because they let us express our creativity and explore unconventional ideas, which then enter the wedding zeitgeist. We couldn’t be happier with how this one turned out.
