Kirby & Ryan - A Whimsical, Playful Celebration Fit for an Artist
Photography by Lexy Pierce
We had long admired the work of Kirby Lowenstein, aka Kirby X Art, from afar. Then, to our delight, she reached out to us about helping with her and Ryan’s wedding. What’s better? They were throwing a non-traditional dinner-party-esque celebration at Philly institution, Pizzeria Beddia. We could not have signed on faster.
Kirby and Ryan’s vision was a lot like Kirby’s art - whimsical, playful, fun, sentimental, and bespoke. Of course, Kirby illustrated and designed all of the branded elements, including the wedding website, save-the-dates, and invitations, plus custom matchbooks, cocktail napkins, menus, and seating chart. The vibe throughout these items was romantic Italian dinner party meets cutesy personalized details (hello hand-drawn illustrations of their beloved cats).
We carried this cutesy, whimsical, Italian dinner party aesthetic into the reception. Salt Floral really took this vision and ran with it - think flowers mixed with sculptural and thoughtfully-placed tomatoes, mushrooms, melons, grapes, and other fun culinary delights as the centerpieces. We found realistic-looking tomato candles and of course had to have Kirby incorporate these into her tablescape. We brought in specialty checkered napkins from Nuage, which added to the trattoria vibe.
Pizzeria Beddia provided the most special, fun, and unique setting. Kirby and Ryan said their vows in front of the “star wall”, adorned with neon star lights, and above the bar was the famous smiley cloud chandelier. Guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the outdoor terrace and bar area, while we flipped the ceremony space for dinner. After dinner, we transformed the space again, clearing the tables to form the dance floor for an epic party.
Of course, “catcessories” aka lifesize cutouts of their cats and cat-ear headbands were provided for guests to rock on the dance floor. These were accompanied by funky sunglasses, which included pairs that featured mini pizzas. A dance party based on pizza and cats? Count us in.
